Vintage 1917 Subway Car to Yankee Stadium on Opening Day

April 08, 2022 | BRONX, NY: Baseball and trains fans alike were able to take a trip back in time with the swipe of a metro card on opening day for Major League Baseball. Fans were taken back to 1917 in a ride to Yankee stadium on a transit authority’s low voltage train and R33MainLine Redbirds.

The first train that left out of Grand Central terminal at 11:00 am was the was the low-voltage train. The following train was the main line which came in two minutes after. Both trains made a non-stop trip to 161st Street Yankee Stadium in the Bronx for Yankees opening day.

The Red Sox would take the Yankees into extra innings but ultimately lose the game 5 to 6 in the 11th inning.
