NYPD Officers Fatally Shoot Pit Bull Mauling Owner to Death – BRONX

April 26, 2024 BRONX, New York – A 41-year-old man was mauled to death by his pet dog in the Longwood neighborhood early Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded just after 3 a.m., to a Bronx apartment and found a pit bull attacking its owner. According to police, upon arrival, the pit bull was seen biting down on the man’s neck.

In an attempt to save the seriously injured owner, two officers fired their service weapon multiple times, striking and killing the dog.

The 41-year-old gravely injured man was rushed to St Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Two officers were also briefly hospitalized for further treatment for tinnitus.

Incident was reported at a Bronx apartment near Simpson St. & Home street in the Longwood section.
