April 25 2024 MANHATTAN , New York – Pro Palestine student protesters stormed into The Museum at FIT Goodman Center to establish a GAZA SOLIDARITY ENCAMPMENT ZONE on the campus grounds of (FIT) The Fashion Institute of Technology, Thursday afternoon in NYC.
Protesters were seen running into the museum lobby doors, pushing past university admin and several campus security guards as others participating held doors open for the rush of students entering.
Once inside, the group of over a hundred people erupted into cheers and others were heard chanting. “Free, Free, Palestine” during their campus takeover.
Outside scores of student protesters and supporters could be seen banding together in an all out “tug of war” style match up with campus security to keep the building doors open.
After everyone made their way inside the lobby with signs and other solidarity encampment essentials, an additional group of demonstrators organized a protest chant circle outside to cheer on the encampment builders. NYPD officers did arrive on scene but never engaged the students.
The group rallied for a short time before marching to 7th Avenue and 28th street where they then ran into the building, bypassing security efforts to contain the passionate group and keep them from entering.
A small group of around 50 demonstrators stayed outside of The Museum at FIT overnight on Seventh Avenue in Chelsea, Manhattan.
The group at FIT is continuing a solidarity encampment with Gaza protest that sprung up at Columbia University and is now being seen spreading across multiple universities around the country.
No arrests were made by NYPD on Thursday at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Chelsea, Manhattan.
