Mall Shooting Leaves Teenager Hurt, Three Arrested in Brooklyn

January 31, 2022 – Brooklyn, NY: Three suspects are in police custody Monday afternoon following a shooting incident that occurred inside of Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn. A teenage male, reported to be 14-years-old was shot in the leg, police said.

Patrons of the shopping center were evacuated after shots rang out. Police officials said, just before 3 p.m. first responding officers determined the shooting to be an isolated incident and not an active shooter situation. The mall remained closed for the remainder of the business day.

According to police, an argument initiated a fight at a shoe store located inside the Shopping mall. Police say the alleged shooter opened fire striking a 14-year-old in the leg. It wasn’t immediately known if the teen was the intended target or an innocent by standard.

We spoke with an elderly mall patron after the evacuation, “I’m just sad to know, this is a place where the public comes. How I feel sad to know that they are shooting in there. Now they’ll have to put more security.”, said the female shopper.

The 14-year-old male was transported by EMS to Maimonides Hospital where he is listed to be in stable condition, police said. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
