Teen Shot During Alleged Car Break-in, Crash into Police Cruiser Attempting to Escape

April 15, 2022 | QUEENS, NY: According to police, a group of teens attempting to steal catalytic converters were shot at by an unknown source. A 15-year-old was struck by gunfire in an attempt to flee and the others crashed a moped scooter into a car driven by an off duty New Jersey police officer who was not injured. The suspects also struck an outdoor dinning structure.

A 15-year-old was shot in the leg after attempting to steal car parts off a vehicle, as two others fled and crashed on 65th street into a vehicle driven by an off-duty New Jersey police officer. The off-duty officer then held the teen suspects at the scene until NYPD officers arrived. The wounded 15-year-old suspect struck by gunfire was transported to Elmhurst Hospital. Police said the victim’s injuries are considered to be non-life threatening.

The incident was reported at 65th Street and Broadway in the Woodside neighborhood of Queens. The investigation into this shooting and theft of car parts is ongoing.
