Two People are Dead, Multiple Injured in Chinatown Heavy Fire

April 15, 2022 | MANHATTAN, NY: Two dead, and multiple injuries reported in a massive fire that broke out at a Chinatown apartment building. The incident occurred just before 4am at 80 Mulberry Street, Chinatown Manhattan.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the apartment building on Mulberry Street. Firefighters at the scene stretched several hoses to combat the flames on the fifth floor.

Just before 4:30am firefighters transmitted a second alarm requesting additional units to aid firefighters battling through heavy smoke and fire while working to extinguish the blaze.

According to FDNY, two people died as a result of the fire and firefighters additionally reported that at least five other people were injured, one with critical burn injuries from the flames.

The fire was brought under control just before 6am. The investigation into the official cause of the fire is ongoing.
