Cop Car Rear Ended Sends Yellow Taxi Crashing into UES Building Scaffolding

September 22, Manhattan, New York: A Yellow Taxi cab crashed into scaffolding and fence around an active construction site at the Bellemont building after allegedly rear ending a police cruiser Thursday evening. The crash caused minor injuries to a 25-year-old female passenger riding in the cab. Two NYPD officers were also injured in the crash at Madison Avenue and East 86th Street just before 8:30pm on the Upper East Side, Manhattan.

We spoke with construction site security, Norman Locus, who mentioned the cab was occupied by two people at the time of the collision. The pair were not seriously injured but visibly shaken after the taxi crashed into scaffolding. The female passenger was transported to NY hospital Cornell Medical Center along with the pair of NYPD officers, 25, and 26-years-old in stable condition, police said.

NYC Department of Buildings responded to the scene to evaluate the damages along with structural integrity of the scaffolding but found there to be minor damage to a fence around the construction site and three metal scaffolding poles. According to Mr. Locus, the damage to the metal scaffolding poles was not considered severe but the three damaged poles will be replaced as a precautionary measure.

As reported by the Upper East Site, It’s unknown how many drivers have used the specific cab involved in the scaffolding crash but the vehicle has at least 7 attached traffic infractions, including school zone speed camera violations dating back to 2019.
