44-Year-Old Man Shot Twice Following East Harlem Deli Robbery

September 22, 2022, MANHATTAN, New York: A masked man entered Mo’s East Harlem deli near 1st Avenue and E 119th street, Thursday afternoon. The masked individual approached the counter with an item to purchase then brandished a firearm and robbed the store clerk. After fleeing the Bodega with stolen cash from the register, the suspect then attempted to rob a man standing outside the deli, police said.

The robber shot a 44-year-old man standing outside, in a second brazen broad daylight robbery at the same location but was met with resistance from the victim. The two had a verbal interaction that quickly turned physical when the attacker pulled out a gun. That’s when police say the 44-year-old victim lunged at the would be robber and fought the attacker off but was shot in the leg and hand during the altercation.

The deli clerk also came to the aid of the 44-year-old victim outside and chased the suspect into the street. The clerk was not injured however the 44-year-old victim suffered a serious gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital where he is expected to survive, police said.

Detectives are searching for a male suspect in his 30’s who fled eastbound on E 119th street. There are no arrests at this time and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
