Queens Couple Killed, One Injured In Early Morning Blaze

An 81-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife did not survive a deadly blaze that broke out in their Flushing Queens apartment unit early Wednesday morning.

According to FDNY officials, Just before 5 a.m., firefighters responded to the all-hands fire on 162nd Street near 71st Avenue in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens.

“At approximately 4:30 a.m., we received a telephone alarm for report of a fire in a multiple dwelling. Upon arrival, which was approximately two and a half minutes later. Units found heavy fire blowing out all windows on the top floor. Even stretched multiple hose lines into the building, they extinguish the fire. There was one minor injury aswell as two fatalities on the top floor.”, said Deputy Chief Robert Sputh

As firefighters arrived, flames could be seen breaching all windows of the 4th-floor apartment. Over 60 firefighters battled the intense flames that claimed the lives of two senior citizens and injured another person.

The cause of the fire and matter of death of the elderly couple is still under investigation.
