Man Shot and Injured by Cops after Allegedly Swinging Pipe at Them

July 23 2021 Police shot and injured a Staten Island man at his home on Friday, after he allegedly swung a metal pipe at officers.

According to preliminary investigation, two NYPD officers responded to a call about a person acting erratically on Malden Place around 10:36 p.m., police said.

After speaking with the 45-year-old man, cops say they got him into an ambulance.

While being treated by EMS, police say the man left the ambulance, pushed his way pass the cops and ran back into his apartment.

After police followed him inside, they say he picked up a two and a half foot long metal pipe and began swinging at the cops.

During a press conference, NYPD Deputy Chief Charles McEvoy said: “One officer discharged his service weapon, striking the male in the torso. EMS immediately rendered first aid and transported the male to Staten Island University North Hospital where he is currently in surgery,”
