MASSIVE Blaze Consumes Chemical Plant in an 11-Alarm Fire in NJ

January 14 2022 – PASSAIC, New Jersey:
A massive fire at the Qualco chemical plant on the Passaic River quickly grew to 11-alarms on Friday evening. The intense blaze forced firefighters to retreat and evacuate the chemical plant as parts of the structure collapsed onto itself.

Video from the scene shows flames shooting hundreds of feet into the air as thick black smoke billows into the sky.

According to New Jersey fire officials, at least one firefighter has been reported injured. Passaic Mayor, Hector Lora, said about 100,000 pounds of finished chlorine pellets have been impacted by the fire and the smoke was potentially toxic.

Firefighters battling the now 11-alarm fire are also facing frigid temperatures this evening. The fire at 225 Passaic St., quickly spread to multiple buildings and the structure is expected to be a complete loss.
