October 01, 2023 Paterson, New Jersey – A woman was gunned down outside her home for the third fatal shooting that occurred on the same day in Paterson, New Jersey, police said.
Mary Taylor, 22, was struck in the head by gunfire as she exited a vehicle Sunday evening around 9:30pm, near the intersection of Van Houten St & Cianci St in Paterson.
Taylor was shot right outside her apartment complex and was rushed to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where she was fighting for her life until she was pronounced dead on Monday.
According to officials the female victim was an innocent bystander and not a target in the shooting. Police say the victim was sitting inside of a white Hyundai Sonata during the time of the shooting and shot upon exiting the car.
Police instantly responded and gave chase after the suspected gunman who sped away in a red Hyundai.
The pursuit was terminated due to dangerous speeds and to not harm anyone else from the public. The getaway car was abandoned shortly after on North Seventh Street and at least two suspects fled on foot.
No arrests have been made in Taylor’s murder and the investigation is still ongoing as police search for suspects.
