August 19th, 2021 – Jersey City, NJ: At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers from the Jersey City Police Department responded to a complaint of farm animals in the backyard of 141 Van Horne St. in the Bergen Lafayette section of the city.
Upon arrival officers say they discovered several animals in the home, some sacrificed, others living in what would seem to be a religious ritual, related to Santeria.
Dead chickens were found in the apartment along with several animals still alive inside, said officials. The homeowner explained she had been trying to evict the tenants for a while but has been unsuccessful due to the moratorium.
