March 25, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A person was killed after being pushed onto the tracks as an approaching northbound 4 train was entering a very crowded 125th Street Subway Station in East Harlem Monday evening.

The commuter was reportedly shoved onto the tracks during an unprovoked attack by a 24-year-old man who was taken into police custody in the station, police said.
The adult male victim whose identity has not yet been released was pronounced deceased at the scene
Charges are pending for the male suspect taken into custody who is being described as an emotionally disturbed individual.
The incident happened just before 7 p.m. at the 125th Street station along the 4/5/6 line in East Harlem.
We spoke with straphanger Brandon Daniel upon exiting the train platform and onto the mezzanine under the guidance of several NYPD officers following the fatal incident.
“The chances of it happening to me are really small but anytime on the subway, I always try to stand a safe distance from the train because I’ve heard that’s happened to people.” Said Mr. Daniel when asked if he’s worried of such an attack on him while in the subway.”
Brandon went onto say “You want to be able to trust your fellow citizens but it’s tough when stuff like that happens, what can the authorities do?”
The fatal push comes just hours after Police Officials announced “Operation Fare Play” which is an NYPD initiative to combat crime and fare evasion in the subway system amid a surge in transit violence.
