Man Shot and Killed After Opening His Door in East Village

January 14 2022 Manhattan, New York – a man was shot and killed after a suspect knocked on an apartment door and shot a 30-year-old victim as he opened the door, according to police.

Incident happened just before 10:00 p.m. in East Village on Friday evening within the Lillian Wald Houses, a public housing complex, at 691 FDR Drive, police said.

According to NYPD officials, a 71-year-old male stated to police that he was in his apartment watching television when an unknown person knocked on the door.

The older gentleman’s 30-year-old son answered the knock and upon opening the door, an armed assailant shot into the apartment striking the 30-year-old at least twice.




According to AMNY, the victim and his father were inside of the apartment, when a knock at the door caught their attention, followed by an unknown person asking “Did someone call for an Uber?”. Police say the suspect was wearing all-black clothing.

EMS rushed the severely injured man from the Lillian Wald Houses in the East Village to Mount Sinai-Beth Israel Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
