March 13 2020, 4:40PM – CITY HALL, MANHATTAN: Mayor Bill De Blasio spoke to reporters today about his decision not to close schools, and to give updates regarding the city’s response to COVID19. “There is an illusion out there that you can shut down schools temporarily, amidst of a growing crisis… If you shut down, you have to be ready for the possibility that that’s it for the school year, might be it for the calendar year” says Mayor De Blasio

“What do you think would happen if you let a bunch of NYC school kids out for not a day, not a week, but 3 months” he asked

“This disease transmitted by dropplet, by fluid, if you will liquid, from one person has to get directly into another, not airborne”, “the N95 masks are valued but are not the only ones that prevent transmission”, said NYC Mayor
