Coronavirus Update From Mayor De Blasio – New York

March 13 2020, 4:40PM – CITY HALL, MANHATTAN: Mayor Bill De Blasio spoke to reporters today about his decision not to close schools, and to give updates regarding the city’s response to COVID19. He gave updates on numbers, talked about a CDC study talking about the virus being transfered only through fluids. Also mentioned that they are accepting surgical masks as well as N95 masks.

City has suspended all evictions at NYCHA and affordable housing they control. Court system confirmed that they will suspend eviction actions through the courts. REBNY said their member organization’s companies will suspend evictions for the next 3 month, Mayor said.

“There is an illusion out there that you can shut down schools temporarily, amidst of a growing crisis… If you shut down, you have to be ready for the possibility that that’s it for the school year, might be it for the calendar year” says Mayor De Blasio

“What do you think would happen if you let a bunch of NYC school kids out for not a day, not a week, but 3 months” he asked

“This disease transmitted by dropplet, by fluid, if you will liquid, from one person has to get directly into another, not airborne”, “the N95 masks are valued but are not the only ones that prevent transmission”, said NYC Mayor
