September 15 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – Outside the United Nations, a days-long protest against President Ebrahim Raisi has been taking place. Raisi is scheduled to speak at the UN at the UN General Assembly this week.
President Raisi orchestrated the imprisonment and execution of thousands of Iranians as the Prosecutor of Tehran, in 1988. Many of those killed were woman.
Mina Andazari survived 7 years in prison after being arrested for peacefully demonstrating against the regime. “It was hell” she says. Taking me on a tour of the high school yearbook photos filling Dag Hammarskjold plaza, she points out her many friends and cellmates that were executed, including her best friend.
A large demonstration is planned to protest Raisi’s presence in New York on September 19 at 10:30 am.
