August 13th, 2023 – Bronx, NY: A 22-year-old man was struck twice while standing outside his vehicle when it became disabled on the Major Deegan Expressway, cops say.
Officials say the 22-year-old man was hit by a vehicle also traveling southbound on the Major Deegan Expressway and upon impact was thrown into a northbound lane where he was then struck a second time by the driver of a jeep.
The 37-year-old jeep driver was critically injured when the jeep flipped after striking the man who was thrown into northbound traffic and taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for further treatment, authorities said.
According to police, the 22-year-old man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The incident occurred around 4:30am and officers from the 50th Preconct responded to the Major Deegan Expressway just south of the 238th Street overpass for a fatal crash.
No arrest have been reported and an investigation is currently ongoing.
