Man Critical After Shot in the Head Outside Housing Complex in Harlem

May 31, 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – Detectives are searching for the lone gunman that reportedly fled on a scooter following shooting a man in the head outside a NYCHA Building in East Harlem, NYC on Wednesday evening, cops said.

The victim, 38-year-old Damien Calderon, was rushed to Harlem Hospital in critical condition for further treatment of the serious injuries he sustained. The wounded male was identified by his brother Alfred Bernard, 45, who spoke with reporters at the scene.

Bernard was alerted to the location by a source who was aware of the incident and through social media. Mr. Bernard called the incident a travesty.

“This is, this is heartbreaking, to say the least. He’s a father. He has two young children who really need him,” Bernard said.

Police responded to 911 calls of shots fired with injuries around 7:40pm, near E 115th and 1st Avenue in Spanish Harlem, NYC.

At this time no arrests have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
