New York State Trooper Shoots Suspect after He Sped Through DWI Check Point

May 27 2023 QUEENS, New York – A New York state trooper shot a suspect following persuit, after he allegedly attempted to run over an officer.

Police say suspect sped through a DWI checkpoint on Grand Central Parkway near LGA Airport, allegedly nearly striking an officer when they attempted to stop him.

Suspect, identified as a 22-year-old Wilton Ketter from Connecticut, sped through the checkpoint around 11 p.m. on Friday night.

As Ketter sped through the checkpoint, troopers started a vehicle pursuit until they reached near Exit 9E, where Trooper Cardona tried to engage Ketter, was non-compliant, according to officials.

Police say the suspect then continued to drive toward the troopers at which point Trooper Cardona discharged his issued firearm striking Ketter.

Ketter was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Flushing, NY for treatment,while another occupant in the vehicle was uninjured, police said.

NYPD and the Queens County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident in conjunction with the New York State Police.
