Officials say that the “police station” in Chinatown was operating to “monitor and intimidate” critics of the Chinese government.

Lu Jianwang, 61-years-old and Chen Jinping, 59-year-old are both accused and charged with setting up overseas police station in the U.S. on behalf of the Fuzhou branch of China’s Ministry of Public Security, officials said.

The station was raided by the FBI in October 2022, when agents seized cellphones and discovered evidence that the communication between the two accused and a Ministry of Public Security official had been deleted, federal prosecutors said.
