“Emotionally Disturbed” Man Wielding a Kitchen Knife Shot by Police in the Bronx

March 26 2023 BRONX, New York – Police say that NYPD officer shot an emotionally disturbed man wielding a kitchen knife in the lobby of a building Sunday morning.

Incident began around 10am in Grand Concourse part of the Bronx,when victim’s father called 911 and told dispatchers his son was having a medical episode.

A 42-year-old Raul de la Cruz was shot in the lobby of the building, after two officers met his father outside, and proceeded into the building, officials stated.

After speaking with the dad, officials said that the son approached officers with a “large kitchen knife” that he had inside his bag. The officers gave numerous instructions to drop the weapon, but he allegedly refused, according to officials statement.

Police say that entire exchange between cops and the 42-year-old victim only lasted 28 seconds before police officer fired shots, striking the man in his chest and leg.

Victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
