TWENTY Firefighters Injured, Three in Critical Condition after a Massive 4-Alarm Fire in Staten Island

February 17, 2023 STATEN ISLAND, New York – Firefighters battled a massive house fire transmitted a “Mayday” over radio for unaccounted firefighters following a major collapse at a 4 alarm house fire on Staten Island where multiple injuries to firefighters were reported.

According to FDNY, all other members are accounted for after upwards of twenty firefighters were hurt with various injuries, including three who were removed from the fire in critical condition. The members of service were transported to Staten Island University Hospital.

At approximately 1:49pm, FDNY responded to reports of heavy fire near Shotwell Ave and Waring Ave at 88 Shotwell Avenue in the Arden Heights neighborhood on Staten Island.

Fire Marshal’s are working to determine the cause of fire. According to a resident it’s possible the fire may be electrical related that originated in the basement.

The investigation into the fire that injured several fire crew members is ongoing.
