Incident happened at around 1 a.m. on a southbound N train as it arrived at Canal Street station, police said.

“I thought I was going to die. I didn’t think this would ever happen to me, and now it happened. We’ve seen this on TV, and now it’s happening to anybody and anyone,” said Fahmi Monsur, a witness.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the torso after allegedly arguing with someone on the train, officials say.

“This system is safe, it is functional, it will be free from the disorder we inherited in 2022,” said Mayor Adams less than 24 hours earlier.

“I can’t tell New Yorkers they should feel safe.”
