Grand Central Madison Station LIRR is Officially Open

January 25 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – Long Island Rail Road trains are now running to Grand Central Madison Station.

Governor Hochul spoke at today’s opening of Grand Central Madison with special Grand Central Direct service.

This service is provided in addition to the current Long Island Rail Road schedule, where trains will run seven days a week between Jamaica and Grand Central Madison Station.

Grand Central Madison is located on the west side of the historic Grand Central Terminal, under Vanderbilt Avenue.

While MTA is running Grand Central Direct service, the station will be open on weekdays from 6:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on weekends from 6:45 a.m. to midnight.

When full service begins, the station will be closed every day from 2 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. At that time, all Long Island Rail Road service will go to Penn Station.

Grand Central is served by the subway lines. The LIRR platforms are at the lower level of the new station, according to MTA website.

Here’s how long it may take you to get to the LIRR platforms:

47th Street or 48th Street: 4-5 minutes
42nd Street, 43rd Street, or: 6-8 minutes
or Metro-North: 10-12 minutes
