NYPD Officer Shot After Gunmen Fires at Police in the Bronx

January 16, 2023 BRONX, New York – Detectives are searching for one of a pair of suspects involved in Bronx shooting that left an NYPD officer wounded early Tuesday morning, cops say.

Just after 3:00am, 48th precinct police responded to reports of an officer shot near Prospect Ave & E 183rd Street in the Belmont section of the Bronx

According to police, one officer was shot in the arm as they were approaching Prospect Avenue and rushed by other officers to the hospital. The wounded officers injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A foot pursuit was initiated for two shooting suspects that fled after gunfire rang out, officers say. One suspect fled southbound on Southern Boulevard while the other suspect fled eastbound. One suspect was detained and a second is still large.

Police say a firearm and face mask allegedly belonging to one of the suspects was also recovered at the scene.

Specialized units were requested to form a perimeter and conduct a suspect search as other NYPD detectives canvassed the area for evidence.

The investigation into the police shooting is ongoing.
