Arson Investigation Ongoing After Elderly Man Dies in New Jersey Apartment Fire

January 16 2023 SECAUCUS, New Jersey – An arson investigating is underway after a fire that broke out in Meadowlands Village apartment claimed the life of an elderly man in Secaucus, New Jersey late Sunday evening, police said.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor, The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating a fatal fire that occurred in Secaucus on January 15, 2023.

Upon arrival at 220 meadow lane, Secaucus Fire Department firefighters observed heavy fire and smoke inside a second floor apartment unit at Meadowlands Village.

S.F.D firefighters located a critically injured 72-year-old resident, later identified as John Meisenburg inside a third floor unit.

The elderly man was rushed to Hudson Regional Hospital but did not survive and was pronounced dead, authorities said.

During a preliminary investigation by The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, the fatal fire was determined to have started inside a second floor unit, with a third floor unit left with heavy smoke damage.

Although the fire does not appear to be suspicious, the cause remains under investigation by the Arson Task Force with assistance from the Secaucus Fire Department and the Secaucus Police Department.
