January 9 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – Thousands of nurses walked out this morning from two of NYC’s largest hospitals in strike.
Over 7000 of nurses at the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan started the strike this morning after not reaching an agreement by 5a.m. over pay and staffing.

Around 3,500 nurses are expected to walk out of the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, as well as around 3,600 nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, according to The Associated Press.

The Nurses Union threatened to strike at all of the affected hospitals, however all other hospitals reached agreements with the union ahead of the deadline, besides the two.
“Bosses have pushed us to strike by refusing to seriously consider our proposals to address the desperate crisis of unsafe staffing that harms our patients,” Union said in a statement.

Nurses Union Association also put out an urgent message for the patients seeking medical care – “If you are sick, please do not delay getting medical care, regardless of whether we are on strike. In fact, we invite you to come join us on the strike line after you’ve gotten the care you need.”
