NYPD Officer Shot Responding to Domestic Dispute in Brooklyn

December 21, 2022 Brooklyn, New York – A police officer and suspect were both shot during an exchange of gunfire after police were responding to 911 calls for a domestic dispute at a Bedford Stuyvesant home.

Police officials stated, 41-year-old Raheem Joyce allegedly fired his weapon as officers were attempting to place him in handcuffs and seven year veteran officer Orlando Adorno was struck in right foot.

A gun toting Joyce fled the scene at 277 Gates Avenue in Brooklyn before being engaged by officers several blocks away on Monroe Street.

According to Officials, Joyce allegedly fired at officers and was struck twice by returning gunfire during a shootout. No officers were hit during the confrontation on Monroe street.

Just before 9:00am a female 911 caller reported Joyce was allegedly damaging and breaking down walls inside of her home, prompting the initial response, police said.

The wounded NYPD officer and Joyce were both taken to an area hospital for further treatment, police said. The hospitalized officer was admitted in stable condition and has since been released.

Gun recovered from suspected gunman at the scene

Police recovered a handgun during apprehension that was allegedly found with Joyce at the scene, officials said.
