Innocent Bystander Shot Driving Work Van in Crown Heights Brooklyn

December 14, 2022 Brooklyn, New York – A 55-year-old man was shot while driving a work van Wednesday afternoon in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Just before 4:00pm, Officers from the 71st precinct responded to reports of shots fired and located a man shot in the chest after gunfire pierced through the drivers side window of the work van he was operating near the intersection of Rochester Avenue & Eastern Parkway, police said.

According to police investigators, a unknown male suspect allegedly discharged a firearm towards a group of unknown males when a round went through the unintended targets window, striking the the victim at least once, officials said

The 55-year-old male was transported by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper chest and listed in stable condition as of Wednesday evening.

The armed male suspect described to be in his early 20s fled the location on foot, and into the Crown Heights and Utica Avenue subway station.

No arrests at this time and the investigation into the non-fatal shooting is ongoing.
