December 8 2022 MANHATTAN, New York – A woman was struck and killed by an hit-and-run driver and then subsequently run over by an MTA bus on the Upper East Side on Thursday evening.
A female pedestrian in her 20s was struck while allegedly not in the crosswalk on the Upper East Side of Manhattan by a hit-and-run driver of a black sedan and then subsequently struck by an MTA Bus, police sources said.
The collision happened on E 96th Street and 3rd Avenue around 6:05pm. The victim was left with life threatening injuries and rushed in Cardiac arrest to St Lukes Hospital where the female victim did not survive her and was pronounced dead, officials said.
Police are searching for the driver of black sedan that fled the scene at a high rate of speed, according to eyewitness.
We spoke with medical workers who were at the end of their shift when they heard the crash and raced out to offer assistance.
“The way the car was speeding, it was down the block and you could still hear the sound of it, it sounded like a race car.”
Chantal mentioned to us that drivers are constantly speeding through the area with no regard for pedestrians, “Even if you have the light, they don’t care” said the medical worker.
Traffic was backed up for several city blocks due to the hit and run collision.
