Authorities say the violent interaction started just after 11 p.m. on a northbound 2 train when the suspect brandished a knife during an alleged argument between a trio of subway riders.

The attacker allegedly attempted to sit on a female subway riders lap and punched her boyfriend in the head before stabbing the 26-year-old victim, injuring him in the leg and hand, as reported by the NYPost

During the attack, the victims girlfriend was able to defend them by pepper-spraying the suspect who then fled the train and boarded a number 1 train. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital for further treatment and is expected to survive, police officials said

At this time there are no arrests and the investigation into the latest transit system crime is ongoing.
