September 30 2022 BROOKLYN, New York – NYPD is investigating after police may have shot an unarmed man while looking for a shooting suspect in Brooklyn Thursday night.
As police say they were patrolling the area after two people were shot nearby, officers say they came across someone who fits the description of a second suspect. As the man ran away, police gave chase – “During the course of the pursuit, they see the male grab his waist, turn towards them, one of the offices fired two rounds, striking a male in his right lower leg.” police officials said during a press conference.
As the man was shot in his leg by the police, he barged into the apartment building on Patchen Avenue and tried to get away from Cops, according to officials.
NYPD on scene originally assumed the man was a suspect who shoot two men Thursday evening near Kosciuszko St & Broadway around 9:32 p.m., in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, said police.
According to police officials, NYPD officers chased a suspect and during a foot pursuit an Intelligence Unit officer patrolling in the area fired two shots, striking the alleged suspect in the right leg. Police officials described during a press conference that the intelligence officer observed the suspect attempt to grab at his waist band for a possible weapon and also ran towards officers, when he was fired upon and shot in the leg.
The fleeing suspect attempted to enter an apartment building near Van Buren St. & Patchen Avenue when he was captured by NYPD officers before entering a unit. The suspect was arrested, along with two additional men located inside an apartment unit who were taken to the 81st Precinct for questioning, said police.
The injured man who was apprehended by the police was6trying to get inside an apartment building nearby, a weapon was not recovered according to police.
The victims shot near Kosciuszko St. were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries and the wounded suspect who was shot in the leg is also expected to survive, said police officials during a press conference.
A police officer was also taken to a local hospital, with unknown injuries and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
