Hospital Patient Struck and Killed on FDR After Wandering Away in Manhattan

September 25, 2022 | Manhattan, New York – A person wearing only a hospital gown was fatally struck on the FDR after reportedly walking away from an area Hospital, police said.

The incident was first reported around 7:50pm, when police responded to 911 calls of a collision on the highway. Upon their arrival, officers located the unresponsive pedestrian struck during an alleged hit-and-run on the FDR Dr southbound near exit 5.

Detectives are searching for a white Mercedes Benz with possible front end damage who’s driver allegedly struck the pedestrian and did not stop to render aid or call emergency numbers for assistance, causing the closure of Southbound lanes on the FDR Drive.

Traffic was seen at a slow crawl as police closed a section of the highway and had cars exit at E 23 st into Manhattan. A Highway collision investigation squad was on scene for the incident.
