September 12 2022 BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – Three children are dead after a mom may have drowned them on Coney Island, police say.
A 30-year-old woman, who is believed to be the children’s mom, has been found and is being questioned by police but “isn’t communicating”, according to officials.
A family member called 911 around 1:40am on Monday morning, saying that she was was “concerned her family member may have harmed her three small children,” said NYPD.
Police say they knocked on mother’s apartment door, there was no reply, they spoke to the father of one of the children.
Father of the child also told the officers that he was concerned about her, and he believed that the mother and the children were on the Boardwalk on Coney Island.
Police and aviation searched the Boardwalk and beach for 90 minutes, not finding the victims.
Police received additional 911 call, about two miles away, where they found the mother who soaking wet and barefoot, and not communicating, police said during the press conference.
Later in the morning, at about 4:42 police found two children and a baby – “the officers discovered three children, a 7-year-old male, a 4-year-old female, and another female who’s approximately three and half months old, on the shoreline here at the water’s edge on West 35th Street in Coney Island,” officials said.
The first responders began CPR and rushed the children to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Police said there was no history of previous abuse.
