August 26 2022 BRONX, New York – First person of interest has been arrested Friday in connection with the robbery and serious assault of an off-duty NYPD cop in the Bronx earlier this week, police say.
An 18-year-old Logan Oshawn, is person of interest who was taken in and charged with gang assault and robbery.
Off duty officer Muhammed Chowdhury was attacked by three men as he was jogging near his Castle Hill home in the Bronx, police say.
Suspects hit him in the head, fracturing his skull and causing bleeding on the brain, he was placed in medically induced coma due to his injuries, officials say. According to police, suspects took his wallet, keys and phone.
Chowdhury has since come out of the coma and is is conscious, recovering, his wife told PIX11 News.
Police are still on the hunt for two additional suspects, who were a part of a string of robberies across the city.
A veteran NYPD officer of 18 years on the force was hospitalized on Tuesday morning with serious injuries following the vicious attack.
According to NYPD officials, the off duty 48-year-old officer was out for a morning jog when he was approached by a group of three unidentified males along Olmstead Avenue and attacked Tuesday morning.
Detectives are searching for two additional masked suspects that robbed the victim of his personal possessions including his cellphone, car keys and wallet before making a get away in a dark colored vehicle. At this time there is only one arrest in the case and the 48-year-old NYPD officer is now recovering in the hospital .
