Corrections Officer Charged with Murder after Shooting 18-year-old who had a Water Pellet Gun

July 21 2022 Bronx, New York – 18-year-old Raymond Chaluisant, who was shooting water pellet gun, was shot and killed by a Corrections Officer in NYC, according to police.

NYC correction officer, 45-year-old Dion Middleton, has now been arrested and charged with Murder, Manslaughter, Criminal Possession of a weapon, according to official NYPD press release.

Police say 18-year-old victim was shooting a toy water pellet gun from inside the car in the Bronx early Thursday , when allegedly Correction Officer shot back.

Police said that Chaluisant was using “Orbeez” type water pellet gun.

Police originally responded to a report of person shot around 1:30am at north west corner of the Grand Concourse and East Tremont, where they found an 18-year-old victim, unconscious and unresponsive, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to Daily News and the NYPD, police said they discovered she’ll casings at the scene, later determining that victim was actually shot half a mile away from the original scene.

As police say they investigated further, the original incident location was determined to be on the south east corner of the Cross Bronx Expressway & Morris Avenue, officials said. One shell casing was discovered outside the original incident location.

Later in the evening police posted on Twitter “Bead Blasters shoot gel water beads propelled by a spring-loaded air pump, making them an air rifle. Air rifles are a violation in NYC & are unlawful to possess. Violators found in possession of these will be issued a criminal summons & the weapon will be confiscated.”
