Five People Injured as Yellow Cab Crash into Pedestrians in Midtown Manhattan

June 20, 2022 | MANHATTAN, New York: A total of six people are hospitalized after a yellow cab collided with a bicyclist, jumped the curb and veered onto the sidewalk pinning two female pedestrians against the wall of a building Monday afternoon in midtown Manhattan, cops said. According to NYPD officials at a press conference, around 14 bystanders rendered aid by attempting to lift the taxi off the injured victims pinned against the wall.

At approximately 1:08pm police called for a “Mass Casualty” response to the crash site that occurred near 29th street and Broadway in midtown Manhattan. Firefighters on scene requested multiple ambulances to 1186 Broadway. NYPD officials stated that three of the injured victims are listed in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital along with the others who suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the FDNY.

Police said the cab driver was headed west on 29th Street and turning left onto Broadway when he struck the bicyclist that was traveling southbound on Broadway. Police reviewed CCTV footage that showed the cab reduce speed in attempt to veer left and jumped the curb.

The Yellow Taxi cab driver remained on the scene and the incident is being investigated as an accident at this time, cops said.

This is a developing story and the incident is still under investigation.
