May 28, 2022 | HOUSTON, Texas: FNTV spent two days at the National Rifle Association convention in Houston, Tx. where featured speakers at the convention included Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Less than a week after one of the deadliest massacres in U.S. history, Uvalde school shooting and Buffalo supermarket mass shooting, protests erupted in Houston for the start of the convention.
“You are not our enemies. We are not yours.” -Beto O’Rourke addresses NRA attendies
Beto O’Rourke, who is running for governor of Texas, spoke to thousands of people at Discovery Green Park located across from the NRA Convention in Houston, Texas.
O’Rourke sent a message to NRA convention attendees and organizers: “You are not our enemies. We are not yours. We extend our hand opened and unarmed in a gesture of peace” he said on stage in front of thousands of supporters, “Join us, to make sure this no longer happens”, said O’Rourke.
A fight broke out outside of the convention when a protester grabbed away a sign from Berrett Haynes, an inventor best known for Creating “Ashli Babbitt Angel” Muppet. Haynes at the time was standing in the Anti-NRA protest group, speaking with a protester holding an “Anti-fascist” flag. Police ran after the group fighting and escorted him away. Several verbal clashes occurred throughout the weekend of protests, crowds confronted attendees of the convention as they went in and out of the building.
Protesters against the NRA Convention shouted “Shame! Shame!” at Convention attendees who were making their way towards their vehicles.
Proud Boys made an appearance on Day two and confronted NRA Protesters, mostly from a distance as police kept opposing sides separated outside of NRA Convention in Houston Texas. They shouted through a bullhorn as protesters confronted attendees of the NRA convention across the street closer to the entrance of the convention center.
“Save Our Children!” – Cesar Espinosa
One of the Anti-NRA organizer Cesar Espinosa, from FIEL Houston, held a protest outside of the convention center. Espinosa chants “Save Our Children” to NRA convention attendees in Houston as the group rallied in solidarity with the families & victims of Uvalde, Texas to say “NRA Go Away”
March For Our Lives, Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, and the Houston Democratic Party were also at the protest in solidarity with Uvalde shooting victims.

FNTV spoke with Nathaniel, a 21-year-old gun enthusiast and NRA Convention attendee about his experience at the event. “I understand they wanna be so quick to blame guns, the real problem in our country is mental illness.”, said Nathaniel. The 21-year-old went on to mention that he didn’t mind the protesters speaking their mind because everyone has that right.
“I have a gun, what about you?” -9-year-old convention attendee shouted across the road at the protesters.
On the second day, we spoke with 9 year-old Xaden and his father Roy who were responding to a group of people protesting against the NRA Convention.
“I have a gun, what about you?”, said 9-year-old convention attendee to protesters.
