SAYING GOODBYE: Last Working Phone booth Removed in New York City

May 23, 2022 | MANHATTAN, NY: The last set of public pay-phones was removed from Times Square on Monday morning. After a long run in New York City, an era has come to a close.

City officials began the removal in 2015 when LinkNYC was chosen by state officials as the replacement for pay phones. The LinkNYC kiosks offer access to free high speed Wi-Fi and charging stations.

The city’s last pay phone bank will be given a new home at the Museum of the City of New York when installed for the “Analog City” exhibit as reported in USA Today.
