15-year-old Arrested after Stray Bullet Killed 11-year-old girl in the Bronx

May 20, 2022 | BRONX, NY: 15-year-old Matthew Godwin has been arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting death of 11-year-old Kyahara Tay. Tay was shot & killed during a drive by shooting Monday afternoon in the Bronx.

According to police, detectives are still searching for the other half of the murderous pair, an 18-year-old male who police allege to be the one driving the scooter during the fatal drive by shooting.

On May 16, 11-year-old Kyahara Tay was shot in her stomach during a Bronx drive-by shooting. The child was shot by a stray bullet and not the intended victim, she was rushed by EMS to Lincoln Hospital with life threatening injuries, police said.

A few hours after the shooting occurred, during a vigil held in Harlem for victims of the May 14th shooting attack in Buffalo, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the 11-year-old Bronx girl passed away at Lincoln hospital.

Two suspects on a moped allegedly chasing their intended target opened fire and a stray bullet struck a the child, police say.

The suspects on motorized scooter fled, incident that occurred at 993 Fox Street in the Bronx.

At this time there are no arrests and Bronx Detectives are searching for two suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
