Five Firefighters injured During Heavy Fire in Chinatown

April 30, 2022 | MANHATTAN, NY: Five members of service from the FDNY suffered minor injuries sustained during a heavy five in Chinatown that required a five alarm response from firefighters late Saturday evening into the early Sunday morning hours.

Firefighters responded to 6 Chatham Square just before midnight for a restaurant basement fire in a four-story mixed-occupancy building, that spread to the ceiling and first floor of the building. According to FDNY officials, the fire originated at the rear of Dim Sum Palace.

The old New York City building was not able to withstand the immense flames, causing sections of the structure to be unstable with a possibility of collapse. Fire crews were evacuated from those areas making the blaze difficult to battle and control.

The five injured firefighters were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, FDNY said. No other injuries were reported in the massive Chinatown fire that was placed under control just after 6:00a.m. Sunday morning

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
