April 26 2022 – PRIPYAT, UKRAINE: On the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency told reporters on Tuesday that radiation levels are “abnormal” at the site of Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant, where the world’s worst nuclear disaster occured 36 years ago today.
In the pouring rain, agents from the IAEA including chief Rafael Grossi came to tour the site. Grossi said that the site has abnormal levels of radiation and that situation created by Russia was “very, very dangerous.”

During the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Chernobyl site was occupied by Russian troops, who were reportedly kicking up dust with their equipment. Other reports had Russian soldiers digging trenches in some of the planet’s most contaminated soil.
