Firefighter Killed, Others injured During Large Brooklyn Fire

April 24, 2022 BROOKLYN, NY: A 21-year-old civilian and Firefighter Timothy Klein, 31, died in the line of duty battling a three-alarm fire that broke out inside a Brooklyn home at 108-26 Avenue N around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Seven other members of service were also injured while battling the intense flames.

According to officials, the critically injured six year veteran of the FDNY was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital after being rushed to the Medical Center. The MOS reportedly fell from the second floor collapse of the structure battling a raging fire. Over 100 firefighters and around 33 units responded to help extinguish the blaze in Canarsie, Brooklyn.

Mayors Adams toured the scene of the 3-Alarm Fire in Brooklyn and was briefed on the status of the injured firefighters while surveying the damage where according to FDNY officials, at least 8 firefighters and two civilians were injured during the blaze one fatal. A 21 yr old autistic man was found deceased in the rubble following secondary searches, making the death toll now to two, officials said.

Two firefighters were taken to Staten Island University Hospital and treated for burns sustained during the incident.

Fire marshals are working to determine the official cause of the fire and the investigation is ongoing.
