Teen Arrested After Attacking Sikh Man in Queens

APRIL 14, 2022 | QUEENS, NY: On Thursday NYPD officials announced the arrest of 19-year-old Vernon Douglas for the alleged attack on a Sikh man in Queens last week. The teenage suspect now faces hate crime charges for the attack on 70 year-old Nirmal Singh. Officer walked Douglas out of the 102nd precinct in handcuffs to an awaiting police vehicle.

According to police, the 70-year-old Sikh man was approached from behind and punched in a unprovoked attack. Leaving Mr. Singh with a broken nose and several bruises. The assault occurred around 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 3rd near the intersection of 95th Avenue & Lefferts Boulevard in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens.

The suspects charges are as followed, Robbery, Aggravated Harassment, Hate Crime/Assault 2 Assault 2/Race Religion.
