The Ukrainian community in NYC have displaced an overwhelming show of humanitarian support for family and strangers fleeing the war torn country. Ukrainian New Yorkers attending lit candles inside and outside of St. George church in remembrance of those in Bucha, Mariupol, Irpin, Gostomel, Okhtyrka, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kyiv, and many others in Ukraine.

Residents of Bucha have accused Russian forces of targeting civilians, killing and torturing hundreds. Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk said that at least 300 people were dead before troops retreated from the city.

“We didn’t do anything bad to anyone, we didn’t call anyone to come here” said a Woman, resident of Bucha, Ukraine as she watched the dead bodies left across the streets after Russian occupiers retreated.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has denied the claims, calling them a “provocation,” despite photographs and video showing damaged city, littered with bodies with advance level of decomposition. Bucha was occupied by Russia troops until they retreated a day earlier, leaving a massacre in their trail

These graphic photos display the level of decomposition as well as signs of possible torture. Several lacerations to one of the individuals face can be seen.

“Putin needs to be laying here, see these roads? He needs to lay here, in this hole. Not our people who didn’t do anything, but him” – says Bucha Ukraine resident, pointing to a ditch with bodies of Ukrainians.

In satellite images by Maxar Technologies, it appears that the first signs of a mass grave preparation in Bucha, Kyiv Region was started on March 10. Bucha’s mayor, Anatoly Fedoruk, told AFP by phone that they “have already buried 280 people in mass graves,” since the Ukrainian army retook control of the town outside Kyiv.
