Off-duty Cop Shot At in Manhattan, Suspect Apprehended

March 23, 2022 – MANHATTAN, NY: Shortly before 7:00 a.m. shots were fired at an off-duty NYPD officer in Manhattan following a minor traffic accident, police said. The shooting incident was reported around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning after the off-duty officer was hit by another vehicle near the intersection of West 155th Street and Edgecombe Avenue.

According to police, the off-duty officer’s vehicle was struck by an SUV operated by an armed suspect. The driver of the SUV allegedly fired at the off-duty officer’s personal vehicle at least once before fleeing the area. There were no injuries reported and the off-duty officer did not return fire upon the suspect driving away.

ESU responded for reported shots fired at an officer and aided in a suspect search. Aviation was also requested to assist in the search of a dark colored Ford SUV with New Jersey license plates.

According to NYPD Officials, just before 9:00 a.m. one individual was taken into police custody following a traffic stop that NYPD confirms was in connection with the shooting at an off-duty officer in Harlem.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
