Celebrating Women’s History Month at JFK Airport with Famed Pilot, Jessica Cox

March 19, 2022 – NEW YORK, NY: On Friday March 19th, Filipina-American woman Jessica Cox made a historic landing at JFK airport as the only armless pilot in the world. Cox made the journey of flying into New York City from Tucson, Arizona just to meet and inspire attendees at the event.

Jessica Cox has set out to accomplish what many thought was impossible, her mission was to be the example for a new generation of people and support individuals with disabilities. In hopes that her story will inspire others to pursue a career in aviation, Cox met with females of all ages, some with disabilities of their own at JFK Airport to give attendees a tour of her 1946 Ercoupe airplane.

JFK airport celebrated “Limb Difference Airport Day” over the weekend in New York. Attendees had the chance to meet and speak with Jessica. Cox has traveled the world advocating for people with disabilities and has been licensed to fly Ercoupes planes since 2008.

We spoke with Girl Scout Emily who was one of the attendees at the disabilities event on Friday at JFK airport. “Today’s event was really exciting and interesting because we got to meet a woman who’s a pilot who has no arms but can fly a plane. It was really interesting to learn about her and her journey through learning how to fly the plane and controlling everything, it’s really amazing.” said attendee Emily

Cox is the founder of a non-profit organization called Rightfooted Foundation International. RFI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides mentorship, education, and advocacy for people with disabilities, especially children with limb differences.
