18-Year-Old Attempting to Flee Traffic Stop Shot by Police in The Bronx

March 06, 2022 – BRONX, NY: A 18-year-old male was shot in the head by police during a traffic stop after allegedly trying to run an officer over. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at 165th Street & Boston Road in Morrisania section of the Bronx.

According to NYPD officials, police from the 42nd precinct observed a black SUV driving through red lights and initiated a traffic stop. The SUV was blocked in from the front and rear by unmarked NYPD vehicles with police lights on. As Officers exited their vehicles, the SUV driver allegedly tried to run over an officer in an attempt to flee, causing one officer to discharge his service weapon, cops said.

NYPD Chief of Department Kenneth Corey said the driver of the black SUV was struck at least one time by police gunfire. The teen driver from New Jersey was rushed by EMS to Lincoln Hospital and is listed to be in critical condition at this time. No other injuries were reported, police said.

Three additional vehicle occupants were taken into custody for questioning. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
